The Irish Palatine Museum will be open all day on Friday, Sept. 4th to welcome participants. Accommodation will be at the nearby Rathkeale House Hotel; a family run 3 star hotel, where there will be a welcome dinner on the evening of arrival. For this occasion a group from Limerick University will join us. A talk will be given by Dr. Patrick O'Connor, Twenty years On: Author's Assessment of People Make Places: the Story of the Irish Palatines.

Over the following 10 days there will be musical events, banquets, concerts, lectures, tours, and other entertainment. Various bodies will host receptions and local dignitaries will meet the group.

The Centre for Irish-German Studies will host a one-day programme at the University of Limerick.

As well as visiting the local Irish Palatine sites we will be visiting Tralee, Killarney, Limerick and the Cliffs of Moher. While we will be identifying family settlement locations there will not be an opportunity for individual genealogical research.

Guest speakers will include Carolyn Heald, author of The Irish Palatines in Ontario; Roland Paul, associate director of the Institute for Palatine History and Folklore in Germany; Patrick O'Connor, author of People Make Places – The story of the Irish Palatines; D.A. Levistone Cooney a retired Methodist minister and President of the Wesley Historical Society in Ireland; Liam Irwin, Head of History Dept., Mary Immaculate College, Limerick and David Fleming Lecturer of History, University of Limerick.

Musical events will include traditional and contemporary Irish music, classical and choral music. Among these will be a classical recital on pipe organ by Bernd Braun of Assenheim, Germany; a 70 strong local choir 'Le Cheile' that has performed with distinction at international choral festivals will entertain us on one of our evenings and Templeglantine Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann will perform an evening of traditional Irish music and dance. We will also attend a contemporary Irish folk performance by Siamsa Tíre at the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Tralee, Co. Kerry.

An exhibition of photographs of the Palatinate by Karlheinz Schmeckenbecher, a freelance German photographer, will run at the Rathkeale Arts Centre for the duration of the event. His work appears in various Palatine publications.

There are 45 places available for this special 10-day commemoration tour open to IPA members and patrons. Closing date for acceptance of bookings 1st March 2009. Booking Form in PDF format HERE. The booking form will also be arriving shortly with the IPA Journal mailed to members in mid-January.
